Maria Hechanova's Demo Reel
I'm currently a producer/reporter for the NBC affiliate KYMA-TVin Yuma, Arizona. Located about three hours away from Phoenix and San Diego, it's a unique market because we cover news from Arizona, California, Mexico, and the United States.
I'm first-generation Filipino and grew up in Glendale, Arizona. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in May 2009 with a B.S. in electronic media & film with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in public relations.
While in school, I was a Division I collegiate athlete. I spent four years representing the NAU swimming and diving team. I know how to put the team before myself and understand the newsroom is a team environment.
This summer, I completed a 10-week fellowship in New York City with NBC Universal's TODAY Show. I was selected through the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) and I'm one of six fellows out of 500 interns at the East Coast NBCU internship program. A fellowship is different from an internship because fellows get paid and interns do not. I believe that if you’re passionate about something, your attitude can be contagious.I belong in this industry.I can’t see myself doing anything else.
